Corporate Overview

Beacon Power Corporation designs sustainable energy storage and power conversion solutions that would provide reliable electric power for the utility, renewable energy, and distributed generation markets. Beacon’s new Smart Energy Matrix, now undergoing field demonstrations in two states, is a concept for a megawatt-level, utility-scale flywheel-based energy storage facility that would provide dependable, responsive and cost-effective frequency regulation services.

The goal of these demonstration projects is to highlight the potential of Beacon's flywheel energy storage technology to regulate grid frequencies, and to evaluate expected performance advantages, such as clean operation, faster response time, and long-term dependability. We believe that in a time of increasing uncertainty about grid reliability and energy issues in general, Beacon Power systems have the potential to provide better-performing, environmentally sustainable, and more cost-effective alternatives to conventional regulation services.

  • the market price of Beacon Power's common stock may decline in the event that it obtains additional financing;
