Mission Kopin's mission is to establish itself as the leading provider of small format, high information content AMLCDs for personal information devices and to expand its leadership
position as the world's leading provider of gallium arsenide HBT Transistor Wafers for high-performance integrated circuits. Identity
Founded in 1984, Kopin is engaged in the development and manufacturing of advanced
semiconductor wafers and electronic digital imaging devices using the Company's proprietary Wafer Engineering technology. Developed in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Wafer Engineering
enables the Company to combine and engineer dissimilar materials into new structures for semiconductor materials that optimize performance for GaAs and silicon based integrated circuits. Today, Kopin is a leading
developer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art, high pixel density, small format flat panel display technology and application-specific GaAs wafers. With headquarters in Taunton, MA and a 75,000 sq. ft. manufacturing
facility located in Westboro, MA, Kopin also has a Design Center in Los Gatos, CA. Kopin operates the only high-capacity, small format active-matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) production facility of its kind and is
the largest supplier of GaAs HBT wafers for telecommunications applications in the US. Kopin is a publicly traded corporation on the NASDAQ (KOPN). Top of page
Technological Breakthroughs Kopin holds over 120 patents for innovative display and wafer engineering technology, and was instrumental in several major breakthroughs in the AMLCD and GaAs wafer industries
including:
- CyberDisplay system
- the world's smallest, highest pixel density, fast performance, full-function AMLCD information display. The displays range in size from 0.24 to 0.5 inch diagonal viewable-image AMLCD footprints, at resolutions of 320x240, 640x480 and 1280x1024. Kopin's CyberDisplay technology enables the commercialization of cutting-edge, high information content displays for products ranging from hand-held to head-mounted devices capable of showing an entire PC screen of information on a small format display
- GaAs Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (HBT)
- Kopin's HBT enable the production of advanced, high-performance integrated circuits for high bandwidth wireless and fiber telecommunications products

AMLCDs and HBT Transistors are well-positioned for strong growth in the future. Industry experts anticipate the market for GaAs will grow at a CAGR of more than 35% through the year 2000. Similarly, the global market
for AMLCD displays of all sizes is expected to triple by the year 2002. Kopin's current and future product offerings are poised lead the demands in the GaAs and miniature display industries.Kopin's GaAs HBT
Transistor Wafers are ideal for advanced wireless and fiber-optic telecom applications. Kopin's HBT revenues of these materials increased over 250% in 1996 and continued strong growth is anticipated in 1997.
Manufacturing capacity for Kopin's GaAs wafer-engineered materials is being tripled to accommodate growing customer demand to aggressively pursue the rapidly growing cellular and other wireless markets. Small format,
high information content flat panel display technology is rapidly taking its place as a technology enabler for creating a new generation of small, high-resolution, lightweight displays with a vast range of commercial,
consumer, entertainment, industrial, medical, and military applications. AMLCD displays are being used in an ever increasing number in all types of personal information devices. As a result, there is a strong, rapidly
growing demand for advanced display systems that can deliver high-quality visual images to enhance the delivery and presentation of video, voice, and data. Kopin is the technology leader in the new era of small format,
high performance display systems.
