2005 Annual Report

Keynote Systems (Nasdaq "KEYN") is the worldwide leader in services that improve online business performance and communications technologies. We help over 2,300 corporate customers become "the best of the best" including Dell, Expedia, eBay, American Express, Microsoft, BP, E*TRADE FINANCIAL, FedEx, Caterpillar, Nissan and Disney.

The business premise supporting Keynote's mission is: "Online businesses can't manage what they don't measure." As an independent and trusted third-party, Keynote provides IT and marketing executives with unbiased benchmarking data, competitive analysis and operational metrics from the customer perspective. This data measures service levels and customer experience of Web sites, broadband services and mobile communications. With this broad view on overall performance, our customers strengthen their competitive position by constantly improving the quality and effectiveness of their online infrastructure, applications and content.

Known as The Internet Performance Authority®, Keynote has a market-leading infrastructure of 1,600+ measurement computers and mobile devices in over 114 locations and 66+ metropolitan areas worldwide. Our computers monitor and test service levels (site responsiveness and reliability, load capacity, content validity and application behavior) in real time. Additionally, Keynote has a panel of over 160,000 consumers who participate in interactive Web site tests that assess user experience. These online tests capture customer attitude and behavior to answer the critical "why" behind the "what." No other company can provide the full picture of the real time online experience from the customer perspective the way Keynote can. Our geographically distributed measurement services, on-site monitoring appliances and independent research ensure that our customers outpace their competitors.

Keynote has been a technology and market leader since the Internet first became a vehicle for e-commerce. As the Internet evolves with more complex interactive e-business applications (such as distributed transactions and Web services), broadband multi-media services (VoIP and streaming radio and TV) and a variety of mobile technologies (2G, 3G, WiFi, WAP), we continue to lead with new solutions that measure and optimize the customer experience.

BUSINESS

Keynote's services enable corporate enterprises to monitor, benchmark, test, diagnose and optimize their e-business systems both inside and outside the firewall. Approximately 2,100 corporate IT departments and over 14,000 individual subscribers rely on the company's easy-to-use and cost-effective services to increase revenues and reduce downtime costs, without requiring additional complex and costly software implementations.

Keynote's global-leading infrastructure of measurement computers provides enterprise companies with the world's largest and most accurate real world "Internet testing lab." This fact, coupled with Keynote's growing portfolio of measurement, monitoring, testing and application performance management solutions and its ability to deliver all its solutions as services, rather than more traditional and costly software solutions, provide Keynote with a competitive advantage.

SERVICES

Keynote's mission is to help its customers improve the quality of service of their e-business infrastructure, applications and Web sites. Keynote markets global services for measuring, assuring, comparing and improving the quality of service of e-business Web sites around the world. These services include Web site availability monitoring, Web site benchmark measurement, Web site transaction measurement, mobile/wireless measurement, load testing, and usability assessment. Keynote's outsourced Web performance management and testing services and appliances require no configuration or update maintenance by customers. Keynote's proprietary software runs on its globally distributed infrastructure of over 1,600 measurement computers located in 50 metropolitan cities and delivers results that can be accessed by customers in real-time over the Internet through any standard Web browser. Keynote's infrastructure constantly monitors millions of Web transactions at all major e-business Web sites to ensure that these sites are up, responding quickly, scaling to meet the load of thousands of concurrent users, that the content on millions of pages is functionally correct, that online visitors find the sites usable, and that the content can be quickly and correctly accessed by visitors using cell phones, Web browsers, or handheld devices.
